About
Molly Nelson
Currently enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi as a Master of Library Information Science student, Molly Nelson has expanded her skills with an impressive and varied work history.
With a background in media production, she got her start with editing videos. Pursuing that passion led to her acquiring a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Video Production at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. While at Pacific, she received an in-depth education on all aspects of film production, as well as minor degrees in French and theater.
As a media production professional, Molly went on to work at such high-profile companies as the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, GoPro in San Mateo, California, and NFL Media in Los Angeles. She also worked at smaller production houses such as RexPost in Portland, Oregon, Tightline Productions in Melbourne, Florida, and Uber Creative Video (now Tradecraft Video) in Palm Bay, Florida. She has also traveled extensively for work, destinations including Germany, Switzerland, and Hawaii.
When she took a job as a youth services library assistant at DeGroodt Public Library in Palm Bay, Florida, Molly discovered a new passion for library work. While at the library, she designed several programs from scratch, including Engineers Club to teach children about STEM, and a chess club that even included a tournament for kids as young as five years old. She also created several original programs for teens, including escape rooms and a murder mystery party. She was also able to combine her library and video production skills to make several videos to promote library programs.
Molly Nelson hopes to combine her passions for media and library work into something new and exciting. She strongly believes in the Freedom to Read and Library Bill of Rights, as published by the American Library Association (ALA). She plans to continue working in media in some capacity, perhaps as a studio archivist or a children’s media librarian.
